Parameter Identification-Based Diagnosis of Open-Circuit Fault in Dual Three-Phase PMSM Drives

This paper proposes a parameter identification-based fault diagnosis method for the open-phase fault (OPF) and open-switch fault (OSF) in open-circuit fault (OCF) of dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (DTP-PMSM) drives. A six-phase model of DTP-PMSM is developed in the stationary coordinate system. The parameter identification method is utilized to ascertain the resistances of the six-phase windings, facilitating the location of the faulty phase according to resistance variations. Subsequently, the fault type is determined by analyzing the changes in resistance during the positive and negative half-cycles of one fundamental period. With the proposed diagnosis method, the fault type can be identified within one fundamental period. In this way, the proposed method enables precise diagnosis of both OPF and OSF in DTP-PMSM drives. The effectiveness of the proposed diagnosis method is validated through experiments.
