Neuro‐Fuzzy Systems and Inference in the Evolution of Intelligent Systems

The fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and information processing are of great interest today, with technology evolving rapidly. This interest encourages the use of AI techniques to improve efficiency, solve complex problems, and make new discoveries in various industries. Among these techniques, neuro‐fuzzy systems stand out because they combine standard logical and statistical methods with more complicated and flexible approaches such as neural networks and fuzzy logic. Neuro‐fuzzy systems are complicated systems designed to solve real‐world issues that involve uncertainty. These systems simulate human‐like learning and inference skills by combining the flexibility of neural networks with fuzzy logic's ability to handle ambiguity. This study analyzes 687 English‐language papers indexed in the SCOPUS database between 2000 and 2024. Iran stands out for its publication contributions and pioneers international collaborative efforts in neuro‐fuzzy systems and inference. The most cited paper is the one published by Filippetti et al. in 2000 with the title “Recent developments of induction motor drives fault diagnosis using AI techniques”, which was published in IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics. The journal “Expert Systems with Applications” has the largest number of articles. In terms of citations, the journal “IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems” is top. “Islamic Azad University” is an institution that draws attention with its productive research in this field. “Quek C.” has the most publications, and “Nilashi M.” is the most referenced author. The most recurring keywords are “neuro‐fuzzy system”, “neuro‐fuzzy systems”, and “anfis”. Prominent trends are the development of neuro‐fuzzy systems, inference algorithms, application areas, integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning, data analysis, and prediction. These patterns represent essential features of research in neuro‐fuzzy systems and inference, as well as suggestions for future study.
