Design of an Analog Integrated Circuit Solving the Two-Armed Bandit Problem in 180-nm CMOS

A design of an analog integrated circuit for solving the two-armed bandit (2AB) problem, which is the simplest version of the multi-armed bandit problem in the fields of machine learning, is presented using a 180-nm standard CMOS. It is considered as a candidate of an ultra-high speed circuit using photonic chaos signal because of relaxing the speed limitation of digital logic circuits. In this design it is the most important to perform system level operation without any error. A pulse generation circuit is introduced and timing is adjusted to minimize system errors. Although this is a simple verification of circuit operation using an easily accessible measurement system, it demonstrates the operation of the system as a whole. The circuit for solving the bandit problem operated at 2.0 GHz in a measurement.
