A Miniaturized Band-pass Frequency Selective Surface for Broadband Application

A band-pass frequency selective surface (FSS) is proposed in this paper for broadband application. The proposed FSS is composed of annulus and cross shaped microstrips. This structure significantly increases the resonant wavelength of FSS within the unit period, thus possessing good miniaturization characteristics. The working band of the designed FSS can be broadened by implementing multi-layer cascade. In the pass band of the designed FSS, the insertion loss is smaller than 0.6 dB with regard to plane wave of incident angle within 45°, and is smaller than 1.0 dB with regard to plane wave of incident angle from 45° to 60°, which means that the proposed FSS features wide-band and high insensitivity to incident angle. The proposed FSS can be flexibly tuned by adjusting geometry parameters, suitable for application of various frequency bands, and promising in the fields of stealth radome and EMC.
