IQ Data Based SAR Image Generation Using Synthetic 3D Scenario

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) simulators are essential for sensor validation, mission planning, algorithm development, and refinement, particularly in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) applications. To the best of our knowledge, no prior work has presented a comprehensive end-to-end pipeline for the generation of SAR images from IQ data, specifically for ISR. This paper introduces a preparation phase that begins with mission planning, optimizing flight paths based on Area of Interest (AoI) geometry, sensor constraints, and platform capabilities, followed by 3D synthetic scenario generation. In the simulation phase, a reflectivity map is generated, leading to IQ data processing and the final formation of the SAR image. The proposed framework is validated through simulation results that demonstrate accurate SAR image generation with respect to acquisition geometry and scattering characteristics.
