Implementation of Phase Compensation and Low Complexity Random Access Channel in 7.2x Split Based ORU of 5G gNodeB

Defence wireless networks need flexible and intelligent RAN architectures in their distributed networks without compromising on high throughput and long range of wireless communication Software defined hardware architectures with open standard interfaces are created to promote innovation and software centric updates in sub modules. Future gNodeB implementations should support massive MIMO features. The ORAN and 3GPP bodies created split based architectures to support this openness. The three major functional units are centralized unit (CU), which implements L2 and L3 functions, distributed unit (DU), implements L2 and L1 functions and radio unit (RU), implements L1 and RF. The current RFSoCs are not only multi channel supportive but also allows dynamic configuration changes on the fly. The 7.2x functional split of RU implements the lower physical layer modules, which consists of downlink (DL) Tx for physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) processing and Uplink (UL) Rx for physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) processing and PRACH receive chains. In this paper, simulation and hardware implementation of phase compensation module for DL, UL and one suitable long range achievable low complex short Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) format chain is realized on Xilinx RFSoC ZCU111 evaluation board is being presented.
