The Weaknesses of the High-Power Microwave Weapon

Given the increasing number of eligible drone users worldwide and the increasing frequency of attacks. Numerous reports indicate that various drug and extremist groups are using drones to smuggle goods and dangerous items. More and more incidents involving modified drones show that current defenses, such as handgun jammers, trained eagles, DJI Arescope, and RF jammers, are ineffective enough to stop or disable these rogue drones. Furthermore, this trend intensified after the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Many states and countries seek high-efficacy solutions, such as lasers and high-power microwave systems. The high-power microwave has recently introduced an effective technology for destroying drones that should be considered. This can have long-lasting effects and create a new type of electronic warfare called unconventional electronic attacks. Upon identification of rogue drones, the high-power microwave systems produce a significant magnetic field, eliminating errant and suicidal drones. This can damage the motherboard of the drone or any drone sensors. This technique is unlikely to incapacitate rogue drones or neutralize planned drone attacks effectively. This article aims to assess and identify the limitations and effectiveness of high-power microwave technology.
