Integrated approach to IEL and HIRF analysis towards certification of aircraft

This paper presents a step-by-step approach for aircraft certification, offering a significant reduction in analysis time compared to conventional solvers. The methodology integrates the Multiconductor Transmission Line (MTL) approach and Multiple Node Analysis (MNA), with a plane wave approach for HIRF analysis and a simple time domain approach to determine Equipment Transient Design Levels (ETDL) of aircraft equipment interconnects. It is found that the approach is computationally efficient. This method provides a unified framework for certification of aircraft according to RTCA DO 160G and MIL standard 461/464 for route to compliance. It is illustrated with an example.
