Real Time Distributed Asset Tracking and Management System using Low Power IoT Networks with GPS and Interactive Front-End Interface

As it stands, across sectors like logistics, agriculture, and infrastructure monitoring, real-time asset tracking is of the utmost importance. Tracking systems themselves are often too expensive, too power-hungry, or just too limited in range to work well in many situations. Even our conventional solutions tend to rely on cellular or Wi-Fi infrastructure, which makes them impractical for remote or large-scale deployments. This paper presents an inexpensive, energy-conserving Internet of Things (IoT)-based asset tracking system that employs long-range, long-range (LoRa) radio frequency communication. The system does not require the use of a LoRa wide area network (LoRaWAN) or cellular network to operate. We aim to create a large area, real-time, distributed asset tracking system that uses GPS for geolocation and transmits data via LoRa. It should be reliable and should have as little infrastructure between the devices being tracked and the system as possible. The system now in use consists of a receiving unit able to decode and show coordinates depending on user-input IDs and a transmitter based on GPS and LoRa (Arduino Uno R3 + RA-02 + Neo 6M). Its range of communication is open ground, up to 7km and in urban areas up to 3km; its GPS system has a ±2.5 m accuracy. This scalable, modular system fits remote applications where cost and power are strictly limited.
