Design and Analysis of Last-First Mapping and Backward Search Modules for DNA Sequence Accelerator using Bowtie Algorithm

The surge in genomic data from high-throughput sequencing technologies necessitates efficient DNA sequence analysis tools. This project focuses on designing Last-First Mapping (LFM) and Backward Search (BS) modules for DNA sequence accelerator using Bowtie Algorithm We developed and verified an HDL implementation of Bowtie, tested it using ModelSim, and synthesized it with Quartus before implementing it on an FPGA board. The expected results include improved alignment speed and accuracy, optimized resource usage, and successful hardware verification. This study aims to advance genomic research by providing a faster DNA sequence alignment method, aiding in genetic variation analysis and supporting personalized medicine and targeted therapies. The FPGA- optimized Bowtie algorithm demonstrates significant performance and cost benefits over traditional CPU-based methods.
