Development of a Configurable Environment Simulator Tool for Centralized Traffic Control (CTC)

The success of modern rail systems depends on their ability to offer frequent, fast, safe, comfortable, and cost-effective transportation in urban environments. With growing urban populations and increased rail traffic, ensuring safety and efficiency has become increasingly complex. One of the key challenges in this domain is the reliable design and implementation of interlocking logic, which governs train movements to prevent collisions and accidents. Manual conversion of interlocking logic—typically represented as Boolean equations in XML format—into executable code is error-prone and time-consuming, posing risks to safety and system reliability.Recent approaches have explored the automation of railway signaling systems using formal verification methods, model-based design, and simulation-driven development to reduce human error and increase reliability. However, these techniques often suffer from complexity, lack of integration with existing control simulators, and difficulties in maintaining real-time performance.To address these challenges, we propose a GUI-driven software tool that automates the transformation of interlocking logic, represented as Boolean equations in XML, into executable C code. This generated C code is specifically tailored for deployment within a Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) simulator—an advanced system used to simulate and evaluate key aspects of railway operations, including train movement, signal control, and safety interlocks. The objective of this tool is to streamline the development process, reduce manual errors, and enhance the safety and efficiency of railway signaling systems through automation.
