Evaluation of Magnetic and Electric Field Impacts of High Voltage Infrastructures

The aim of the paper is to describe a tool for the rapid assessment of magnetic induction and electric field levels generated by high-voltage sources such as electrical substations or primary transformer cabins. The proposed numerical code is based on the description of the complete geometry of the source based on a limited set of input parameters provided by the user. The modeling of the magnetic and electric fields is carried out using classical electromagnetism formulas using an integral approach which allows to avoid the discretization of the air surrounding the sources and the ground. The calculation allows verification of compliance with exposure limits for both the general public and workers. Additionally, the code includes a simplified criterion based on the so-called far-field model, enabling quick estimation of the minimum safety distances required by legislation for the protection of workers and the population.
