RL-FLD: An Improved FLD Method for the Automatic Generation of Quadrilateral Mesh

Quadrilateral mesh has unique geometric properties and irreplaceable advantages in fields such as physical simulation and polygonal modelling; the study of the automatic generation of quadrilateral mesh has important theoretical significance and engineering value. RL-FLD, an improved FLD method is proposed to achieve a better balance between efficiency and quality. Initially, a triangle mesh optimization method RCVD based on Centroidal Voronoi Diagrams (CVD) is proposed to replace the original triangle mesh optimization method in FLD, which improves the speed of FLD and the quality of the generated quadrilateral mesh. Subsequently, the Laplace operator is employed to smooth the constructed Auxiliary Directed Weighted Graph, thereby improving the speed of partition construction in FLD by tracing streamlines. Finally, comparative experiments and analyses are conducted based on input models of different complexities and types to verify the method’s effectiveness. The experimental results indicate that the generated mesh quality of RL-FLD is superior to that of existing methods, while the average speed is more than 45% faster than FLD.
