Analysis of Current Distribution in Parallel DC Circuits Using the Current Divider Rule

The Current Divider Rule (CDR) is a fundamental concept in electrical circuit analysis, describing how electric current is allocated among parallel branches in direct current (DC) systems. Despite its foundational nature, the CDR is often misunderstood, particularly by students and early-career practitioners in electrical engineering. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive and pedagogically sound analysis of the CDR, with the goal of clarifying its application and addressing common misconceptions. The study focuses on the current flow through parallel resistors and employs a dualmethod approach: analytical derivation using established mathematical formulas, and simulation-based validation via Multisim software. Additionally, Kirchhoff’s Current Law is applied to reinforce the theoretical framework. Results indicate perfect alignment between the simulated and calculated values, confirming the accuracy and consistency of the CDR. This work highlights the significance of mastering the Current Divider Rule for accurate DC circuit analysis and emphasizes its role in the advancement of electrical engineering education and practice.
