Wideband Compact Directional Antenna for Ground Penetrating Radar Applications

A compact wideband Vivaldi Antenna with split ring resonator, for ground penetration radar application is reported in this paper. The Vivaldi antenna is operating in the frequency range from 600 MHz to 1000 GHz. The compactness and wideband property of the antenna is achieved through the incorporation of circular split ring resonator. The radiation characteristics of the antenna is directional in the desired frequency range and is verified at 600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz and 900 MHz. The antenna produces a peak gain of 4.71 dBi. The high directional characteristics, with good gain and wide band characteristics makes it a good candidate for ground penetration radar system.
