Securepath: A Women-Centric Mobile Application for Personal Safety and Emergency SOS Assistance

There is always a fear regarding one's personal safety so proactive measures are taken. This paper presents a concept of a practical mobile application which would facilitate a person to request for help very quickly if he or she is in trouble. The mobile application allows user to send panic alert, geolocate the user in real time and send live audio or video feeds to specified contacts. In addition to the manual trigger of the alert system, this application also has a shake detection functionality where the user can shake the handheld device to trigger the SOS alert. This is an added feature in case the user cannot access the phone screen. There is also a periodic check in system within the application, which requires users to update their status on the app within a given time frame. By focusing on minimizing response time and offering a wide range of safety solutions, this mobile application seeks to promote safety among individuals in different scenarios regarded as emergencies.
