Motorized Wheelchair with Detachable Stem

This paper presents the development of a motorized wheelchair with a detachable stem, designed to address the mobility challenges differently-abled individuals face. The unique design integrates modularity and high technologies, such as ultrasonic sensors, Raspberry Pi-based control system, and Internet of Things (IoT)-based functionalities through the Blynk app. The project is in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3, 9, and 11 through promoting healthy living and good health, encouraging innovation, and supporting sustainable, equitable communities. Additionally, the detachable stem feature enhances portability and user convenience. Testing demonstrated improved obstacle detection, manoeuvrability, and user satisfaction. This paper highlights the system's architecture, performance metrics, and future potential for enhancing users' quality of life.
