Stress Cone Optimization for Field Regulation in Cable Terminals

The insulation performance of 10kV bypass cable terminations is influenced by factors such as the properties of insulation materials, electric field control design, and interface sealing performance. Especially, excessive local electric field intensity may lead to insulation deterioration and cause electrical faults. The stress cone structure can optimize the distribution of the electric field. The study investigates the electric field distribution in 10kV bypass cable terminations and optimizes the stress cone structure based on the distribution patterns. A 2D finite element analysis model was established using COMSOL Multiphysics to analyze the impact of stress cone structure on the electric field distribution within the termination. Simulation results demonstrate that incorporating a stress cone significantly improves the electric field distribution. Further optimization reveals that a stress cone length of 5 mm and thickness of 41 mm yields the most uniform electric field intensity distribution, effectively enhancing the termination's insulation performance. The study provides a theoretical basis for the rational design of 10kV bypass cable terminations.
