Toward Flexible and Intelligent Indoor NFC: The Role of Pinching Antennas in 6G Networks

Near-field communication (NFC), initially understood as a physical phenomenon governed by Rayleigh distance conditions, is now emerging as a key communication technology in sixth-generation (6G) wireless systems, particularly under high-frequency and large-scale antenna array settings. Within this emerging paradigm, pinching antennas represent a flexible and reconfigurable class of antenna structures that enable adaptive NFC deployment. By allowing dynamic geometric reshaping, these antennas offer precise spatial control over near-field radiation and facilitate seamless integration with waveguide-based architectures. This paper presents a systematic introduction to the key characteristics of pinching antennas and their potential applications in indoor NFC, with a particular focus on their advantages in beamforming, physical-layer security, and antenna activation optimization in dense environments. Building on this foundation, we investigate a pinching antenna assisted trajectory sensing and prediction framework for indoor NFC, in which a dual-waveguide architecture is employed to acquire user channel state information, identify motion states, and leverage large language models to enable predictive communication scheduling. Furthermore, to address physical-layer security threats, we design a two-way secure communication architecture based on the PASS and develop a robust optimization algorithm capable of countering both eavesdropping and active attacks. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach can significantly improve the secrecy rate compared with conventional methods.
