Modbus RTU on FPGA to Control HY Table Machine via a PC

This research presents an FPGA-based Modbus RTU communication and motion control system for an HY table machine, aimed at enhancing precision and automation in industrial applications. A PC serves as the Modbus master, transmitting commands to the FPGA, which acts as the slave and controls three stepper motor drivers. Implemented using Verilog HDL, the system leverages the efficiency of the Modbus protocol and FPGA technology. Extensive simulations and realworld testing confirmed its reliability, achieving real-time performance with nanosecond-level signal transmission. The system is resource-efficient, scalable, and adaptable for broader industrial applications, with potential enhancements such as expanded Modbus function codes, improved error handling, and integration with PLCs. This study contributes to industrial automation by providing a robust and efficient solution for precise motion control and communication.
