STEM program management and outreach in different locations of a country. Case: Bolivian NASA HERC STEM activities

This paper examines the management and impact of a Bolivian STEM outreach program led by the VEMEC team from Universidad Católica Boliviana, using their participation in the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge as a comprehensive case study. Engaging approximately 6,000 participants across diverse geographical settings, the program implemented a variety of educational activities, including workshops, science fairs, mobile laboratories, and hackathons, designed to promote inclusive and accessible STEM education in both urban and rural areas. The research delves into how the program effectively navigated logistical, financial, and cultural challenges inherent in these varied regions, emphasizing the pivotal role of technology, innovative pedagogical strategies, and robust program management. By enhancing STEM education accessibility in rural areas and reducing the education gap between urban and rural communities, the initiative not only inspired participants but also increased community engagement. Analyzing the Bolivian experience offers valuable insights for policymakers and educators aiming to replicate successful STEM initiatives in similar socio-economic contexts, underscoring the significance of international collaboration and the need for context-specific program design to maximize impact.
