Simulation Analysis for Anchor Damage in Oil-Filled Submarine cable

Mechanical damage to submarine cables caused by fishing anchors is a major fault source, contributing to over 80% of mechanical failures. This paper uses three-dimensional finite element simulations to analyze the impact of ship anchors on submarine cables. The study focuses on strain distribution in the optical fibers and insulation layer under different conditions, revealing a linear relationship between optical fiber strain and conductor strain. The findings support optical fiber strain measurements for intelligent monitoring and condition evaluation of anchor damage.
