Effect of Pulse Waveform on Pulse Energy of Intense Pulsed Light Therapeutic Apparatus

To enhance safety standards for the output pulses of intense pulsed light (IPL) therapeutic devices, this study tested 19 household IPL devices and 6 medical-grade IPL devices. The effects of high and low pulse energies on peak drop trends were analyzed. Test results indicate that in household IPL equipment, pulse width decreases as pulse energy declines, with pulse output remaining within the effective range for a relatively small proportion of the time. Conversely, medical-grade IPL devices exhibit a linear broadening trend in pulse width with increasing pulse energy; their output consistently maintains energy within ±20% of the set value. These findings provide a basis for selecting output pulse parameters and assessing the safety of intense pulsed light therapeutic devices.
