Demonstration of a 700 V-18 kW Low Voltage Direct Current Microgrid

Within this work, experimental results from the demonstration of a $700\ \mathrm{V}-18\ \text{kW}$ active low voltage direct current microgrid consisting of a main AC grid, PV system, battery storage and both AC/DC loads, are reported. The grid contains interlink converters operating based on DC droop control as a decentralized communication and power electronics-based DC-circuit breakers. Test cases focusing on issues with power quality (transition among different sources, transition from grid mode to island mode, hierarchical load shedding, DC bus faults, frequent on/off connection of loads, circulating current among converter and black-start) are conducted and reported. The results are used to design and build an efficient DC microgrid with highest power reliability.
