Energy Management Implementation Approach for Droop-Controlled Residential DC Nanogrids

A well-designed energy management system (EMS) is essential to optimize the performance of a DC microgrid, where efficient data transfer between the EMS and converters is a key concern. The paper explores energy management in DC nanogrids through the adjustment of droop control parameters by shifting the voltage setpoint. It presents two scenarios within a centralized EMS architecture. The first scenario involves a simulation where voltage setpoint shifting is selected as the primary energy management strategy and sensor tolerance correction is also simulated. The second scenario demonstrates the actual behavior of a converter when a droop curve shifting command is applied. In this case, the EMS communicates using the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol. This implementation is tested on a 350 V DC nanogrid setup.
