Fuse Arcing Model for Low Voltage Direct Current Distribution Grid

LVDC systems protection sizing is often referred as a challenge. One of the most cost-efficient solutions would be to use fuse, but the multiplicity of parameters influencing the behaviour of fuses makes them difficult to anticipate and model without being a manufacturer. This paper proposes an experimentally based model of the arcing phase of two fuse technologies so that overvoltage and current values, as well as tripping times, can be easily estimated in EMT simulation. The model limitations are discussed.
