Study on Short-Circuit Brake Characteristics of High-Speed, Heavy-Load Electric Cylinder

High-speed electric cylinders have high transmission efficiency but lack mechanical self-locking characteristics. When an electrical drive system fails during operation, relying solely on mechanical brakes makes it difficult to stop the load quickly. This paper investigates three-phase winding short-circuit braking characteristics in permanent magnet synchronous motors, analyzes the relationship between braking force, motor current, and load speed, and proposes the limiting conditions for using the short-circuit braking scheme. Simulation verification confirmed the accuracy of theoretical calculations, demonstrating that short-circuit braking combined with mechanical brakes significantly reduces the stopping distance after electric cylinder failure, with notable safety protection effects.
