Design and SAR Assessment of a Dual-Band Wearable Antenna for Medical IoT Applications

Designed for Medical Internet of Things (MIoT) and Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN), this work offers the design and Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) evaluation of a small, flexible dual-band wearable antenna. Made on a polyimide substrate with a dielectric constant of 3.5 and a loss tangent of 0.02, the antenna guarantees mechanical flexibility and biocompatibility for body-worn use. Operating at 2.4 GHz for WBAN and 4.5 GHz for MIoT communication, the antenna has dimensions of 17.5 x 20 × 2 mm³. Fit for low-data-rate medical telemetry, simulated findings reveal a gain of 5.27 dBi at 2.45 GHz and 7.71 dBi at 4.5 GHz. Designed to link with integrated body sensors for continuous monitoring and wireless vital sign transmission, the antenna is with SAR levels much within the IEEE and ICNIRP criteria, SAR analysis employing a multilayer human tissue model verifies that the antenna satisfies international safety criteria. Supporting the increasing demand for real-time health monitoring and IoT-enabled medical diagnostics, the proposed design shows a good answer for safe, dependable, and efficient wearable healthcare systems.
