Optimization of a Fuzzy-PID Controller Using Genetic Algorithm for Automatic Voltage Regulator

This research presents a Fuzzy-PID Logic Controller for an Automatic Voltage Regulator. The AVR monitors terminal voltage and regulates the field excitation of synchronous generators in order to keep the terminal voltage almost constant, even when the load conditions change. The FLC is composed of two- input and one-output Membership Functions(MF). It employs Genetic Algorithms (GA) for optimizing the parameters of the controller . Simulations under varying load conditions proved the capability of using this controller to keep a stable terminal voltage than other controllers in terms of dynamic performance and stability.
