Shaping a Better Future by Integrating Sustainability Projects into Educational Activities

As the world continues to change, it's essential that we prioritize sustainability to preserve and improve the environment around us. The integration of sustainability projects in university educational activities based on challenge-based learning represents a valuable and essential initiative. Education is a central piece for shaping the next generation to prioritize the environment, and society. This paper shows several projects undertaken by students using both software and hardware. These projects, if further developed, have the potential to make a positive impact on the future. The three projects presented are developed with Arduino, considering the use of circuits in controlling the house lighting, managing a terrarium of small dimensions and a beehive. Engineering students are always more attracted to practical projects, thus through this kind of multidisciplinary project they can apply what they’ve learned in different courses and also accumulate information about how to take action to protect the environment.
