Stack and throw using robotic assistance

Shopping has changed dramatically over the years, evolving from simple checkout counters to self-service kiosks and now to autonomous robotic systems. As technology advances, the way we interact with stores is becoming smarter, faster, and more convenient. This paper introduces an autonomous robotic vehicle designed to improve the in-store shopping experience by integrating intelligent navigation, real-time product identification, and automated item retrieval. Using an infrared (IR) sensor-based line-following system, the robot effortlessly navigates supermarket aisles, ensuring precise movement without human intervention. A high-resolution camera provides real-time video feedback, allowing customers to locate products remotely. Thanks to object recognition, the system can display essential product details—such as price, quantity, and expiration date—giving shoppers all the information they need before making a purchase.When the robot reaches the desired product, its robotic arm carefully picks it up with a precision grip mechanism, ensuring that even fragile or bulky items are handled safely. Beyond assisting customers, the robot actively contributes to inventory management. By using AI-powered robotics, it detects expired products, prompting the robotic arm to remove them from shelves. This not only helps in reducing waste but also ensures a cleaner and more organized shopping environment. By automating both product selection and freshness checks, this robotic assistant improves shopping efficiency while also optimizing supermarket operations. This project is a step toward the future of smart retail, where automation and artificial intelligence work together to create a seamless, customer-friendly, and highly efficient shopping experience.
