Clustering Data Collection Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks Based on Genetic Algorithm

This paper proposes a clustering data collection protocol for wireless sensor networks based on the genetic algorithm. The network flooding protocol based on constructive interference provides reliable data collection. However, the transmission mechanism of each data packet requires global nodes’ participation, which leads to excessive energy consumption in the network and presents scalability issues. In response to the limited energy of wireless sensor networks, this paper proposes to use genetic algorithms to achieve the selection of sink nodes, thereby achieving efficient clustering data collection and extending the network’s lifespan. Simulation shows that, compared to the existing protocol of CI-flooding, the proposed GACCI-flooding protocol can effectively reduce energy consumption and thus extend the network’s lifespan without significantly affecting network performance.
