FPGA-based brain tumor detection and segmentation using image processing

A brain tumor is the growth of abnormal cells in or around the brain. Medical imaging plays a vital role in detecting and segmenting brain tumors, which helps doctors plan appropriate treatments and make precise diagnoses. This paper proposes a unique and real-time brain tumor detection and segmentation method based on Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology. The implementation of this system is realized with the Mimas Spartan 6 development board and the Xilinx ISE design suite. The method used combines techniques of image processing to precisely locate the tumor boundary in MRI scans. The FPGA's parallel processing capabilities enable the system to run in real time and deliver significant computational efficiency. Furthermore, the brain tumor is displayed on a VGA monitor in real time, providing healthcare professionals with a quick and easy way to visualize and analyze the data.
