Open-Source CAD Modelling for Educational Applications of Visually Impaired Individuals

Individuals with visual impairments can significantly benefit from open-source CAD modelling software approaches, particularly when integrated with assistive technologies like text-to-speech synthesizers or refreshable braille displays. In an educational point of view, these applications let users build and manipulate 3D models, sometimes utilizing a text-based interface for enhanced accessibility. During the education, the integration of haptic technology introduces an additional dimension, enabling users to physically “feel” the shapes and contours of their creations. In this article, a detailed overview of the robotic arm design process for visually impaired people is presented. The FreeCAD open-source software has been used in order to design, analyze, and prepare for 3D print process.
