The Implications of Use of AI and Geo/Spatial Technologies in Data Harvesting for Sustainability Reporting on Corporate and Project Level

Over the past few years, the EU has experienced a more pronounced slowdown in GDP compared to other major economies, particularly the United States and China. The innovative application of advanced technologies, decarbonization, and increasing security through reduced dependencies were identified as three areas for action to reignite growth. This paper explores how AI and geo/spatial technologies can be employed to gather and analyse data in support of sustainability reporting in accordance with The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRSs) at both corporate and project levels. Samples are taken from Oikon environmental consulting practice, with the scope covering biodiversity and ecosystems related topics defined by general ESRS1 and ESRS2 standards and ESRS E4, in particular.
