Cybersecurity for Sustainability: A Path for Strategic Resilience

Facing global challenges, organizations increasingly prioritize resilience along with sustainability, which are now deeply linked with digital transformation. As digital transformation accelerates, the escalating threat landscape poses significant risks to sustainability initiatives, potentially disrupting services, compromising data, and eroding trust. This paper explores how cybersecurity can contribute to organizational sustainability and strategic resilience. We investigate the theoretical interrelations and examine empirical evidence through a qualitative approach, combining a literature review and a case study of Telia Company. We argue that effectively integrating cybersecurity is not merely a risk mitigation exercise but a critical enabler of sustainable systems and strategic resilience, fostering innovation and digital trust. The case shows cybersecurity treated as a strategic asset for sustainability, not merely a technical cost. This research highlights cybersecurity as a fundamental element for organizations seeking to be sustainable, adaptive, resilient, and future-ready in the digital age.
