Basic Spatial Analyses in Raster Data Environment

This chapter discusses the basic geographic information system processing and analysis in raster data environment. Local raster operations process grid cell values either on a single or multiple digital map layers. Neighborhood or focal operations apply a moving grid cell window to calculate new values of the grid cells on a digital map. Zonal operations typically utilize predetermined zones to summarize statistical values of regions. Global operations are grid cell‐based modeling processes. Finally, the map algebra refers to processes that calculate values of all the grid cells on different map layers at the same location using mathematical or statistical methods.
