NOBS: A Data-Sovereign Telemetry and Monitoring Framework for 6G Networks

Network Observability Platform (NOBS) is a data-sovereign telemetry and monitoring framework designed to meet the primary needs of multi-vendor packet-optical networks in the 6G (Sixth Generation) era. It supports various protocols, including gNMI, NETCONF, RESTCONF, and SNMP, and adheres to data models from OpenConfig, OpenROADM, and TAPI (Transport Application Programming Interface) standards for precise monitoring of individual network elements and vendor-specific optical line systems. Furthermore, it provides data-sovereign, usage-controlled, and regulated telemetry sharing features through the utilization of customized Eclipse Dataspace Component Connectors (EDCCs). This innovative and unique feature sets NOBS apart from other monitoring platforms by delivering a cutting-edge solution to safeguard the data ownership of stakeholders, which is crucial in multi-party disaggregated environments. In this paper, we present an overview of NOBS’s architecture, detail its key components, and report several experimentally demonstrated use cases.
