Wireless 90 GHz Receiver with Direct Optical Conversion

This paper presents the design, fabrication, characterization, and measurements of a plasmonic 90 GHz receiver for data transmission applications. The receiver is based on a metallic resonant four-leaf-clover antenna with an embedded plasmonic electro-optical modulator that enables direct imprinting of the received RF signal onto the optical carrier without a need for an RF amplifier. The details of the receiver design and the experimentally achieved data rates will be presented.
