AI-Based Real-Time Risk Detection and Safety Assessment in Electricity Maintenance Using 2D and 3D Image Analysis

In this article, the authors present the development and implementation of an innovative system designed to prevent accidents caused by human errors and the lack of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Named the “Safe Behavior Project”, this system uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to ensure the correct execution of corrective and preventive maintenance in electrical transmission and distribution systems. The primary innovation is the integration of 3D cameras and neural networks for image analysis within defined regions, known as “geofences.” This technology creates a virtual barrier around specific areas, triggering automatic alerts in case of risks. 3D detection not only evaluates object positions but also assesses depth and distance, making the system highly adaptable. Unlike conventional recognition systems that rely on two-dimensional (2D) cameras, this project represents a technological breakthrough by incorporating Artificial Intelligence into a three-dimensional framework. The system detects unsafe conditions and displays identified faults in real time on the screen, ensuring immediate alerts.
