Multi-Domain Motor Cooling Simulation for Enhanced BEV Efficiency and Durability

This paper presents a comprehensive multi- domain simulation framework for a battery electric vehicle (BEV) that integrates an advanced motor cooling system using MATLAB/Simulink. By employing Simscape Fluids to model a liquid cooling system alongside an electric motor model in Simscape Driveline, the study captures the intricate interactions between electrical and thermal systems under high torque demands and extended operating cycles. The framework enables detailed analysis of how effective thermal management influences motor efficiency, performance, and longevity, particularly under challenging conditions such as intense acceleration and regenerative braking. Furthermore, the paper conducts a comparative assessment of various cooling control strategies, evaluating their impact on energy consumption, thermal response, and overall vehicle dynamics. Simulation results demonstrate that optimized cooling not only mitigates the risk of overheating but also significantly enhances system efficiency and extends the motor's operational lifespan, offering valuable insights for the design and development of robust BEV systems.
