Selection Method for Optical Units in 66kV Dynamic Submarine Cables Based on Finite Element Simulation

With the rapid development of submarine power transmission systems, monitoring technology for submarine cables has emerged as a critical determinant in in ensuring the safe operation of power systems. In the dynamic submarine cables used for 66 kV floating wind power systems, optical fiber monitoring technology plays a pivotal role in ensuring power transmission reliability for offshore wind energy. The selection of optical units directly affects both the monitoring performance and the reliability of the system. This paper comprehensively studies the influence of the position of optical units, sheath materials, and filler configurations on monitoring performance using finite element modeling of dynamic submarine cables. A three-dimensional finite element model of a 66 kV dynamic submarine cable was developed in ANSYS to simulate and analyze the mechanical strain distribution of optical units under tensile, bending, and torsional loading conditions. Additionally, a two-dimensional cross-sectional finite element model was constructed in COMSOL to explore the effects of optical unit positioning and filler types on fiber-optic temperature monitoring accuracy. Results show that the reasonable position of optical units, appropriate sheath materials, and optimized filler configurations are important factors in improving monitoring accuracy and stability. This study provides a theoretical basis for the selection of optical units in submarine cables and offers technical support for enhancing the safety and reliability of submarine power transmission systems.
