Emergence of Green Practices in Moroccan Ports: A Strategic Driver for Sustainable Performance

Environmental and social challenges are leading Moroccan port organizations to rethink their logistics chains in order to better meet current requirements and promote sustainable performance. The objective of this study is to explore in depth the economic, environmental and social practices implemented by Moroccan ports to enhance their sustainable performance. To this end, a qualitative approach is adopted, based on field observation and semi-structured interviews conducted with relevant managers. This approach helps identify Moroccan ports’ sustainability initiatives, and the challenges hindering their transition towards sustainable and ecological ports. The results reflect a notable commitment by Moroccan ports to protect the environment and promote social equity. They also propose international practices and experiences that could overcome persistent challenges and strengthen the competitiveness of Moroccan ports.
