A General Analysis of Passive Component Sizing for Input Inductor Buck Converters

Converters that incorporate split inductor designs demonstrate great potential for delivering high power while maintaining compact sizes, making them well-suited for data center applications. The input inductor buck converter, incorporating split inductors on the input side, represents the most fundamental topology with the split inductor design. This work presents a comprehensive analysis of the input inductor buck converter, deriving analytical expressions for bypass capacitor voltage and input inductor currents. Simulation and experimental results are provided to validate the analysis. The proposed model serves as a tool for designers to determine optimal component values based on passive volume and switch stress constraints.
