SICBoard: A Racing Motorbike Measurement and Dashboard System for Real-Time Sensor Analysis

This paper describes the design, development, and validation of an electronic board, called SICBoard, for the real-time acquisition and visualization of sensor data on a racing motorbike. The board was integrated into the MS2223015P motorbike prototype developed by the “Stretto In Carena UNIME - SIC” team, which successfully competed in the seventh edition of MotoStudent. The proposed system, designed as a custom alternative to commercial Data Acquisition System (DAS), is based on the Compute Module 4 (CM4) Raspberry Embedded System, which gives higher computational throughput and I/O flexibility than commercial board. Extensive laboratory and on-track tests were performed to assess its reliability and performance. In particular, accuracy, repeatability and responsiveness were evaluated by comparing the data acquired from the SICBoard with mechanical distances measured via a caliper gauge. The realized DAS provides a solution to the limitations of commercial ones, allowing more relevant data to be collected according to the needs of each racing team, ensuring superior flexibility and adaptability in automotive applications.
