A Hybrid Traffic Scheduling Approach for Time-Sensitive Networks for Smart Substations

To solve the conflict between data traffic surge and real-time control demand in smart substation networks, a hybrid traffic scheduling approach based on time-sensitive networks (TSN) is presented. The method utilizes the deterministic transmission characteristics of TSN to adapt to the challenges in network real-time and reliability. By deeply analyzing the traffic characteristics of smart substations and segmenting the TSN traffic classes, this paper proposes a hybrid traffic scheduling method called SS-MTS smart substation, which incorporates time-aware shaping (TAS) and cyclic queuing forwarding (CQF). The technique can optimize the booked traffic collection time, which reduces the phenomenon of wasting transmission network resources for time-sensitive flows. A schedulability evaluation algorithm is provided for the schedulability assessment of hybrid traffic scheduling. Simulation results show that the proposed method can significantly improve the scheduling success rate and network resource utilization of hybrid flows while ensuring deterministic transmission of critical real-time flow TT flows. Therefore, the method achieves efficient scheduling of hybrid traffic for TSNs in smart substations.
