A Heterogeneous Dual-Core MCU FPGA Verification from Module to System Level

The study presents a verification method for FPGA systems based on Cortex-M4 and Cortex-M0 dual-core heterogeneous FPGAs, which is used to verify the system functions and evaluate the performance of chips before tape-out. This paper focuses on verifying system functions through SPI. A single-core system can only do one task at the same time. Traditional single-core systems can no longer meet the requirements of high performance. The architecture of dual-core systems and even multi-core systems has gradually developed. In order to reduce product risks, all functions of the chip need to be verified and evaluated before tape-out. Verification is a very important part of the entire design process. With the development of embedded products, chips are becoming more and more complex, which leads to more and more complex FPGA verification platforms. FPGA is close to the real chip environment, fast, and easy to implement [2]. During system verification, design problems can be discovered as early as possible through the synchronization of software and hardware. Compared with software simulation, FPGA can not only allow the design to run at a higher frequency, but also run complex system programs, which is suitable for long-term system verification and stability testing. After the target chip verified by this platform, all the functions and performance of the chip that comes back from tape-out meet the design requirements and can be mass-produced.
