Adaptive Frequency Modulation Control Strategy for Electrode Boiler Load in Islanding Mode

Traditional frequency modulation (FM) resources face significant challenges for large-scale application due to geographic constraints, limited lifespan, high costs, and environmental pollution. In contrast, electrode boilers offer over 99% electric-to-heat conversion efficiency, stepless regulation capability, clean and low cost, making them highly potential for regulation frequency. This paper develops a mathematical model and control strategy for electrode boilers and proposes a load frequency control method based on a virtual synchronous machine (VSM). To address the issue of low system inertia in islanding mode, an adaptive rotational inertia control method is incorporated into the VSM. Simulation results under three operating conditions demonstrate that the proposed method can rapidly respond to system disturbances and effectively mitigate frequency fluctuations.
