Effect of Electromagnetic Active Flow Control on the Endurance of Flying-Wing Layout Underwater Glider

This paper focuses on investigating the influence factors and mechanisms of electro-magnetic active flow control (EM-AFC) on the fluid field characteristics and voyage range performance of flying-wing layout underwater glider(FWL-UG). The electro-magnetic volume force, lift coefficient, and drag coefficient of a FWL-UG were analyzed by dimensionless parameters to explore the effects of surface density of active magnetic flux and electrode plate potential. The research aims to obtain the influence rule of EM-AFC on the fluid field characteristics of FWL-UG. The sawtooth-shape motion of FWL-UG with EM-AFC is simulated, and the influence rule of surface density of active magnetic flux and the potential difference of the electrode plate on the glider ratio of FWL-UG is obtained. The findings indicate that EM-AFC can effectively improve the glide ratio of FWL-UG. By comparing the effects of the surface density of active magnetic flux and the potential between the electrode plates on the electro-magnetic volume force investigation and the hydrodynamic characteristics of FWL-UG, it is concluded that the effects of these two factors are comparable and the effect of both can be explored through the electro-magnetic Reynolds number. In summary, this paper provides valuable insights into how EM-AFC can be used to optimize the performance of FWL-UG by manipulating the surface density of active magnetic flux and the potential difference of the electrode plate.
