Implementing a Graphical User Interface for Backscattering Simulations from Multilayered Sea Ice

In this paper, we present a convenient graphical user interface (GUI) that can be used to set up and run parametric studies on backscattering from multilayered media with rough interfaces. The GUI takes user-defined inputs and calls an implementation of the Small Perturbation Method for multilayered media to perform radar backscatter simulations. We demonstrate the capability of the GUI through theoretical case studies and provide a comparison with data from sea ice scattering experiments. The GUI is a step towards a more general inversion framework that will use radar data to provide information on the properties of sea ice and any additional layers of media (e.g., snow or oil).
